Dear Friend The apostasy of the end-times, and of America in particular, is progressing rapidly. It has recently been dramatically revealed through a fast food chicken chain. End-time prophecy and fast food restaurants - two things one doesn't generally put together in the same sentence. Yet the two are joined. Recently the fast food chain Chick-fil-A has made news, controversy, and has become the center of the American "culture war." The reason? Chick-fil-A is owned by Christians. Its president Dan Cathy made these statements in recent interviews: "We are very much supportive of the family-the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that." Not exactly the most controversial statements imaginable. Cathy simply said he believes in the biblical definition of marriage - something most born again believers fully believe. And yet it was this that ignited a national fury and controversy. Gay advocacy organizations immediately called for a boycott of the fast food chain which was accused of hate speech. Protests were planned. A gay "kiss in" protest was planned to take place at Chick-fil-A's across the country. The mayors of Boston, Chicago, and San Francisco called for a ban of the fast food chain, stating that it would not be welcomed in their cities. Former governor and presidential candidate Mike Huckabee countered with a call for "Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day. The result was that on Wednesday, August 1, multitudes of people stood in line for hours at Chick-fil-A's across the country to show their support. All this is significant - a frightening indicator at how rapidly America is discarding biblical values for anti-biblical ones and an ominous portent of what the future holds. Keep in mind the following facts:1) Dan Cathy simply stated that he was for the biblical definition of marriage and concerned for America's redefining of it. 2) This was his personal belief. 3) He simply stated a very basic tenet of Scriptural truth. 4) Yet this simple personal affirmation of traditional marriage has been branded as "hate speech" warranting the boycotting of a restaurant chain. 5) The call of American mayors to ban Chick-fil-A represents government persecution or attempted government persecution of a privately owned business for the thoughts held by a private American. In just a few years, the notion of redefining marriage has gone from being viewed as a radical fringe notion, to one concerning which, if you have a different view, you can be publicly attacked and threatened, even by public officials. The Harbinger speaks of the parallel between the apostasy and judgment of ancient Israel, and that of modern America. Of the ancient case, Isaiah cried out: "Woe to those who call good evil and evil good." We are living in the same day. Only the speed of America's apostasy far outpaces that of ancient Israel's. If this is the case now, what will be the case in just a few years from now. Governor Huckabee's decision to stand against the tide and the response of multitudes to join him shows the other side. We are to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. We must stay the salt of the earth and shine, and stand for what is right, confidently and in love. Thus did the righteous stand and shine in ancient times. Thus must we all do likewise for such a time as this. This month, be a light to all around you, boldly, and in love. And May God bless you as you do. Your brother and co-laborer, in His love and service, Jonathan
