The Open Yad

Friday, December 30, 2022

The word for worship or thanksgiving in Hebrew is yad or yadah, which means the open hand. A worshipful person is someone with an open hand, a hand that gives. It's an open hand, an open heart, an open spirit that worships God. An open hand not only gives, but receives. The hand that doesn't give, isn't going to receive either. If you are born again, you are spiritually Jewish; your life should be characterized by thanksgiving, because the word also comes from Yahudah, Jew. The word Jew means one who gives thanks with an open hand, with praise. When you give thanks to God, you don't have anxiety or worry. You can't be worried and give thanks at the same time. To live a life that worships God, you have to have an open spirit, an open heart, an abundant life. The more you give, the more you let go. The one who has an open hand to give blessings, is one who has an open hand to receive them; the one who has learned the secret of the open yad, the open hand.
