There's a reality show on television that centers on a southern family who became rich making duck callers for hunters. In Proverbs 11, it's written: "The righteousness of the upright delivers but the unfaithful are trapped by evil desires." When a hunter goes after ducks, how does he get them to show up? He blows a duck call! To the duck it's a mating call. When hunters set traps, the traps usually function on the principle of desire. In the same way, you have an enemy, and he wants to trap you and destroy your walk. How does he do it? He does it most often, by using your desires. Watch your desires, the enemy does. The enemy knows that if you leave your desires unguarded, he can bring you to a place you'd never otherwise go. Self-control is actually essential to a life of freedom and joy. So be wise. Be led by the Spirit. Guard your desires. And the next time you hear the voice of temptation, hear it for what it is. For behind that sweet voice, is the mouth of the enemy. It's not an invitation to romance or joy. It's just a duck call.
